Orthodontic Braces

Pediatric Dentistry of Johns Creek is pleased to offer Orthodontic services to our patients.

Early Evaluation

Children should see an Dentist who specializes in Orthodontics by age 7 to advise if orthodontic treatment is required and it is the best time for that patient to be treated. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and crossbites, crowding, and other problems can be evaluated. Early treatment can simplify later treatment.

Adolescent Treatment

Between the ages of 11 and 15 is the most common time for orthodontic treatment, and for good reasons. By 12, most if not all of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps and bad bites can easily be detected. These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when most parents decide to seek orthodontic treatment.

Itero Digital Impression System

At Pediatric Dentistry of Johns Creek, we utilize digital scanning to prep braces for our patients. In the past, messy putty impressions were put into the child’s mouth and they were forced to keep them in for a few minutes. This often causes an uncomfortable gag reflex in the child.

We use a Digital Impression Scanner – a revolutionary new technology that in just minutes captures a digital impression of the mouth which is more accurate and eliminates the need for uncomfortable traditional putty impressions. By gently moving the scanner over a child’s teeth, we can get a detailed readout of the teeth structure.

Types of Braces We Offer

Traditional Braces

These are the metal brackets and wires that most people picture when they hear the word “braces.” The technology has improved to make them more effective and less obtrusive.

Invisalign ® Teen Clear Braces

We are certified in Invisalign ®, a revolutionary way of straightening your teeth without metal wires or brackets. Invisalign ® works through a series of clear, comfortable, and virtually invisible aligners that you can remove whenever you eat, drink, brush or floss. Most mature teens and adults are candidates for this revolutionary breakthrough!

invisalign teen logoInvisalign ® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that Invisalign clear braces you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements that we plan out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. You just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. You’ll achieve a great smile with little interference in your daily life. The best part about the whole process is that most people won’t even know you’re straightening your teeth.

Damon Braces

Damon System braces use passive self-ligating brackets that provide gentler moving forces to your teeth, resulting in reduced discomfort, fewer appointments and less overall treatment time! Plus, Damon braces use no elastics, meaning your braces are less noticeable and promote better oral hygiene than conventional braces.

Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24 months. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

Orthognatic Jaw Surgery

Corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) treats and corrects abnormalities of the facial bones, specifically the jaws and the teeth. Often, these abnormalities cause difficulty associated with chewing, talking, sleeping and other routine activities. Orthognathic surgery corrects these problems and, in conjunction with orthodontic treatment, will improve the overall appearance of the facial profile.
